Anish Giri, born in 1994 in Saint Petersburg and now representing the Netherlands, earned his grandmaster title at 14 and is widely respected for his strategic, solid play. He has won the Dutch national championship five times, most recently in 2023.
In 2024–25 Giri re‑asserted himself at the top level: he shared first at the 2024 Tata Steel Chess Tournament with 8.5/13, then rebounded strongly in 2025 by winning the Sharjah Masters 2025 (7/9) and claiming clear first in the FIDE Grand Swiss 2025 in Samarkand with 8/11, thus securing his spot in the 2026 Candidates.
As of June 2025 his classical rating stood at about 2748, placing him world No. 12, and his media presence has remained strong — he is active on social platforms and continues to produce instructional content.
