Koneru Humpy is one of India’s most celebrated chess Grandmasters. She made history by becoming the youngest woman to earn the GM title at 15 in 2002. She returned stronger from maternity leave to win the Women’s World Rapid Chess Championship in 2019 and again in 2024.
In team events, she has powered India to gold at the 2020 Online Chess Olympiad and bronze in 2022. Recently, in July 2025, she reached the final of the FIDE Women’s World Cup but narrowly lost in the tie‑breaks to fellow Indian Divya Deshmukh.
Humpy remains India’s top female player and a global force in women’s chess, showing remarkable resilience, consistent elite performance, and leadership both on and off the board.
