Parham Maghsoodloo, born in Gorgan, Iran, is a chess Grandmaster, earning the title in 2016. He first gained international attention at the 2015 FIDE World Cup, facing elite competition including Wesley So. Maghsoodloo quickly established himself on the national stage, winning the Iranian Chess Championship three times (2017, 2018, and 2021) and representing Iran at the 42nd Chess Olympiad.
His breakthrough came in 2018 when he became World Junior Chess Champion, finishing with an impressive 9½/11 score. Known for his resilient and versatile playing style, he has consistently competed at the highest levels internationally.
As of September 2024, Maghsoodloo holds a FIDE classical rating of 2712 and is ranked 23rd globally, though he reached a career-high world ranking of 12th in December 2023. His performances at elite events like Tata Steel Challengers and the Asian Games, where he contributed to Iran’s gold-winning team in 2022, affirm his status as one of the strongest and most promising players in modern chess.
