Fabiano Caruana, born July 30, 1992 in Miami, Florida, is a towering figure in American and global chess. He became a grandmaster at just 14 years, 11 months and 20 days—setting a U.S. record at the time. His rise included four straight Italian championships (2008–2011), followed by top‑level global success.
In 2018 he challenged Magnus Carlsen for the World Championship—drawing all 12 classical games but succumbing in the rapid tiebreaks—yet his elite status remained unshaken. His peak rating of 2844 (2014) and a legendary 8.5/10 score at the Sinquefield Cup (performance ≈ 3080) cement his legacy.
In 2024–25 Caruana won the 2025 Grand Chess Tour Finals, reclaimed the U.S. Championship (2025) for a fourth consecutive time tying Bobby Fischer’s record run, and secured the top spot in the 2024 FIDE Circuit—earning his place in the 2026 Candidates. He currently holds a classical rating around 2795, ranking world No. 3.
His repertoire is as rich as his résumé—from the Ruy López to the Sicilian Rossolimo—and off the board he engages global fans via his C‑Squared podcast and commentary. Caruana combines precision, preparation and versatility, embodying modern chess at its highest level.
