Jonas Buhl Bjerre, born June 26 2004 in Denmark, became a Grandmaster in 2020 and holds the record as the youngest Dane to do so. He made his mark with wins at the Nordic Youth Championships and the European Youth Championship (U14) in 2017.
Bjerre’s playing style is fierce and dynamic, complemented by strong positional discipline. In 2022 he placed third in the Challengers group of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2022, showcasing his ability to compete with some of the world’s best. In 2024–25 his form remains robust: his classical rating peaked at 2655 in July 2025 and as of November 2025 stands at 2634, making him Denmark’s top player.
With youth on his side and a trajectory that points steadily upward, Bjerre is a rising star on the international chess stage, known for both his ambition and his fearless style.
