Marc’Andria Maurizzi, born May 16, 2007, in Bastia, France, is one of the most prodigious young talents in chess. He won the French under-12 junior championship in 2019 and earned his International Master title at just 12 years and two months. Maurizzi achieved his first two Grandmaster norms in Catalonia, finishing first at the Sitges Open in December 2020 and securing his second norm in Barcelona two months later.
On May 21, 2021, he became the youngest French Grandmaster at 14 years and five days, breaking Etienne Bacrot’s long-standing record. Maurizzi’s rise continued with victory at the 2023 World Junior Championship in Mexico City, cementing his reputation among the world’s most promising young players.
As of October 2025, he holds a classical rating of 2624, rapid 2489, and blitz 2502. His versatile repertoire includes the French Defense Exchange and Closed Sicilian as White, and the King’s Indian Attack and Sicilian Pelikán/Sveshnikov variations as Black. His recent victories over elite opponents like Bacrot, Amin, and Ivanchuk highlight his ongoing ascent toward the top echelons of international chess.
